The desire to plant a Church was seeded in the life of Pastor Jerry Sweany as he ministered at Valley Evangelical Free Church of Vacaville. Through a long set of difficult circumstance God captured Pastor Jerry and his (late) wife Amy's heart with a vision.
The vision that God gave them was for a church of authentic believers who desire to take God at His Word and use them to make an impact on the lives of those around us as well as a tool to help mobilize people to reach the ends of the earth with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
A great value that God has placed on Pastor Jerry's heart is to use the abundant blessings God has given us in the United States of America to be a blessing to those in the world who have never heard the gospel of Jesus Christ and have never even had the opportunity to hear the truth of God's love for the world. God's heart and love for the world as expressed in the entirety of the Scriptures is a major driving force in the vision for this new Church.
The vision is for a body of leadership that is humble, unified and intent on listening to God's voice and seeking His Word for the direction of the Church body, a group of believers that would be led in a humble, godly manner by biblical elders who would be encouraged and empowered to use their gifts in the fullest way possible. A church that would reach into the community around them and join them in what they are doing. A church that would be willing to leverage the gifts of the entire body, men and women alike, to do a work that will make an eternal impact of God's kingdom here on earth.
In the Fall of 2005 we began having worship and Bible study in the home of Tim and Amy Liedstrand with the help of an additional home down the street with Mark and Lisa Frazier. We began with a group of about fifty people who desired to be a part of this new community of believers. Our first Elders were Mark Frazier, Jon Alden and Jerry Sweany. Not long after that we also added Rick Erickson and Dan Buckner. We believe that God is leading Rolling Hills Community Church and continue to seek Him in humility as we do so.
On March 3, 2006 we experienced a tragedy that will forever change our lives as we experienced one of our dearly beloved believers, Amy Sweany, take up residence in heaven. This was a challenge to our Pastor and Elders that was difficult for everyone. Yet we believe that God was growing us in depth and unity because of and in spite of the loss of our Pastor's late wife and ministry partner. She indeed was and is still an inspiration to us as we continue to forge ahead in her spirit of glorifying God with our lives.
In January of 2008 our Church grew by adding another Pastor, Chris Gray, and wife Pauline and baby daughter Cambria. Another significant change that happened at virtually the same time was that Pastor Jerry married Melinda and began a brand new chapter in their personal lives as well as in the life of the Church. Melinda has truly been a gift from God to Pastor Jerry as well as to the entire family.
In January of 2012 our Church experienced another critical change as we merged with Providence Community Church which met across the street from us and was Pastored by Darren Paulson. This merger was years in the making as God had been moving on both Pastor Darren's and Pastor Jerry's heart. God executed the timing perfectly and we came together for our first service on January 1st, 2012.
Transitions: In 2014 God led our Church to a new facility to call home on a permanent basis as opposed to setting up and breaking down every week. We feel blessed to have this home in the Food Fair shopping center (148 S. Orchard Ave.) and we are thriving in this environment.
In September of 2018, Pastor Jerry and his wife Melinda, started a new chapter of ministry in paradise as Melinda received an amazing job opportunity in Maui, HI.
